Polarimetric Data for 990215

This page contains time series
and scatter plots of various polarimetric quantities (Zh, Zdr,
D0,LWC) over the NOAA Profiler location using S-pol data in radar
coordinates extracted from the profiler/rain gauge/disdrometer
location. Horizontal reflectivity (Zh) and differential reflectivity
(Zdr) are raw fields collected by S-pol. The derived quantity median volume diameter (D0)
is based on a relation:

D0(Zdr) = 1.529*(Zdr)^0.467 [cm]

The derived quantity mass weighted
mean diameter (Dm) is based on the relation:

Dm(Zdr) = 1.619*(Zdr)^(0.485)

The derived quantity rain rate
(RR) is based on the relation:

RR(Zh,Zdr) = 0.0067*(Zh)^(0.927)*10^(-0.3433*Zdr)

on the following relations:

### Time Cross Sections of raw and
derived S-Pol data in radar coordinates (0.6 and 1.0 km height)

1. No averaging (height, range,
or azimuth) of S-pol measurements (data represents the closest
pixel to the profiler site with az distance = 0.66 km and range
distance = 0.15 km: total sample volume is about 0.064 km^3).

2. Averaging 4 gates in range
only of S-pol measurements (sample volume is approximately a cube
with dimensions of about 0.66 km on a side = 0.257 km^3). The
sample volume is a factor of 4 bigger than (1).

3. Averaging 10 gates in range
and 2 gates in azimuth of S-pol measurements (sample volume is
approximately a cube with dimensions of about 1.3 km on a side
= 2.57 km^3). The sample volume is a factor of 40 bigger than
(1).
