10 August 2004 0015 not much going on - just watching system to nw moving nw and dissipating 0050 Boring, boring, just watching everying dying out. Nothing new popping up. 0200 system to nw stratiform region (broad). gusave seems to show evidence of mcv (cyclonic rotation) in velocity signature. maybe in s-pol data as well? not completely clear to me. at 6.7 deg slice, ~ 20 dbz from stratiform clouds. maybe switchup to climo shallow. in reality, looking more closely at rotation, it appears as s-pol is seeing rotation in opposite direction (i.e. anticyclonic)! but maybe velocities convention are different. intersting to look at. 0253 nothing much left on the scope - at full hour - switching to climoshallow. note: there is ~ 30 dbz echo due to bugs within ~ 10 km of s-pol! yuk! 0315 time for climoshallow! 0400 Gustavo here 0500 stratiform region is exiting s-pol domain at n-nw. all echoes topped at 3 degrees antenna angle. 0700 nothing out there. NOTHING, except insects. 1200 Nesbitt here. Some stratus deteched by radar, otherwise nothing. insects seem less widespread than usual this am? rebooting iq. 1315 absolutely no meteorological echo on scope. 1514 A few cells have popped up at far ranges over the ocean (looks to be along the LBF from last night). 1553 Tech has notified us that 2 a/c units are down as well as the generator. We may have to shut down for some time as the transmitters cool down. At least the weather is cooperating! 1625 a few more cells popped along the LBF, otherwise some cumulus mucho humilis out there! 1854 first signs of some convection at the furthest ranges to the NE 1907 power went out, back on. waiting for transmitter to come back up. scans between 19:08:16 and 19:09:43 are bad 1921 transmitter up. began climoshallow again. 1933 resynch. d'oh. 1945 resynch. will do rain tilts and then yield radar to tech to examine problem with horizontal power (test pulse is off). 1948 antenna stopped. 1950 restarted. vertical power still down a few dB. need to resynch. 2000 James and Simona here 2030 Restarted climoshallow ontime. 2100 1921-now horizontal power was down 2dB. Data will need correcting. It's now fixed. 2220 Diurnal convection now developing over the SMO. 2322 Radar stopped to allow work on air-conditioning. Better to miss coverage now than being forced to turn it off later during an active period. Keeping an eye on the satellite to monitor convection over the mountains. 2357 Started back with the climoshallow sequence.
