14 July 2004 0100 Switched back to Climo Far - echo movement continuing NW around TC. Not quite topping cell ~50 km due E, but this echo does not appear to be doing much (intensitywise) so felt it appropriate to go back to better vertrical res. scanning. TL sent in SPOL update via NAME catalog and is working on installing CSU software. Problem - NCAR computer "IQ" does not have CDF libraries installed, so were limited in what we can do for now. Translator DORADE --> UF works but UF_RADAR will not read these SPOL UF files. 0244 Stopped for a min to check new names in NAME_micro.scn. It all looks ok! 0245 Synched up on Climo Far again. 0256 Rob & Tim Leaving. Dave Ahijevich here. 0300 NOAA Profiler is operating now. 0405 Some close cells not being topped by 14 degrees 20 km range. 0410 Switching to Climo Near at 04:15. 0413 Stopped 0 degrees scan to do RHIs. 0428 RHIs (Stopped 26.4 degrees scan) 0430 Restarted Climo Near 0445 Ran past :45 mark. Had to stop, reset and start Climo Near again. 0502 Uploading base scans to JOSS catalog. 0535 Moving back to Climo Far at 05:45. 0714 Outflow boundary visible going out to sea. Almost parallel to coast. 0725 General trend is dissipation. 0730 Switched to Climo Shallow. 1150 Preparing for unattended obs. 1200 Developing cells ~200 km south of S-pol. They aren't impressive. 1600 Switched to Climo Far to top shallow cells ~40 km off coast. 1715 Switched to Climo Shallow. 1800 Cifelli on site. Most activity out over Guld at the moment - nothing of interest in view over the SMO. Echoes over Gulf in linear feature with sev eral cell regions - all dissipating currently. Max dBZ's < 30. Outflow boundaries evident in time loop, coming foff cells in Guld and moving toward shore. So far, no initiation has been triggered. Echo tops (based on CIDDS display) 8-10 km range. Climo Scanning mode seems the order of the day - at least for now. Low-level winds from NW today. 1945 Switched to Climo Far in order to top cells 40-60 km range in SE-S sector. Echo movement mostly toward W-NW, but difficult to tell - everything sort of forming an dying in place. 2138 Antenna stoopped (out of synch) - restart Climo Far. 2145 Back on schedule with Climo Far. 2200 Far topping by 6.7 degrees, switching to Shallow. No precip in gauge. Check and empty at 12:00 everyday. 2300 Scattered convection continues, but echoes are quite weak and totally unorganized; don't have much faith things will last past sunset.
