CASE 27 - Scattered afternoon convection over SMO
8/14-15/04
Microphysical scans 2245 - 0045 Z, 3h

S-POL SUMMARY:

S-POL Log 040814 S-POL Log 040815

Scan Overview:

2223:

Scattered, moderate-strength convection firing over the SMO. Everything topped by 7.9 deg and is 90+ km out.

2245:

Begin Microphysical Scanning, Switching to MicroFar135 : Centered sector at 60 deg, RHI at 60 deg - on moderate-strength cell at 60 deg / 60 km.

2254:

RHIs reveal a couple pixels of 60 dBZ aloft. Might qualify as an "intense, isolated storm".

2355:

Rotating PPI sector CCW to capture new growth to the NW. All echo present in S-Pol domain is being captured by sector scans - continuing with microphysical scanning.

0005:

RHIs to near cell, 35 deg & 50 km. Most of the cells out there look basically the same, small with relatively intense cores up to frz level or so, and little anvil. By the time the anvil gets going the cell is drying up.

0045:

End Microphysical Scanning, Switching to ClimoFar: Scattered convection continues.
